Lifts are in our DNA
We’ve been moving people for over 150 years. In 1867, Joseph Stannah -great, great, great grandfather of Uplifts CEO Sam Stannah – founded Stannah Ltd and registered his first patents for lift safety gears and hoists. That pioneering spirit lives on in everything we do today.
Moving on up
In 1975, Stannah introduced the product that made the name famous: the stairlift. First built in our Tiverton Street factory in London, production later moved to Andover, Hampshire, now home to the Uplifts homelift range. It was a defining moment, setting a new standard in independent living.
A new generation of innovation
Nearly 50 years after the stairlift was launched, Sam Stannah founded Uplifts, Stannah’s dedicated homelift company, marking a bold new chapter in the family business. With the same commitment to quality, safety, and customer care, Uplifts is setting new benchmarks in home mobility solutions.
A global business with strong foundations
With products sold in over 40 countries, the Stannah family business has grown into a global name. We continue to invest in our future, expanding manufacturing to Tyneside, growing our UK service network beyond London, and building a presence in international markets.

A sixth-generation member of the Stannah family, Sam founded Uplifts in 2022 to continue his family’s legacy of lift innovation. As CEO, he leads the business with a clear focus on customer-centred design, quality, and modern mobility solutions.
Alex Wilson
Alex leads all aspects of engineering and product development at Uplifts. With a sharp eye for detail and a passion for innovation, he ensures every homelift blends cutting-edge design with world-class engineering standards.
Gaynor Childs
Gaynor oversees every stage of the customer journey, from first enquiry to final installation. Her mission is to make every experience smooth, supportive, and tailored to each customer’s unique needs.
Keith Stanger
Keith manages our expert network of surveyors, technicians, builders, and installers across the UK. His team works tirelessly to ensure every Uplifts homelift is installed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Louis Stannah
Louis is the driving force behind Uplifts’ international growth. He crafts strategic marketing campaigns that connect customers with the right solutions, helping our brand thrive in markets around the world.
Diane Mabbs
Diane is often the first point of contact for our customers and always one of the friendliest. With a calm, can-do attitude and a commitment to care, she ensures every customer feels supported from day one.
Rebecca Burberry
